Tan Sri Lee Oi Hian

Together with brother Datuk Lee Hau Hian, Tan Sri Lee Oi Hian runs Batu Kawan Berhad. Tan Sri Lee is the nineteenth richest Malaysian in the recently released Top 40 list where he has a wealth of RM1.589 billion. Currently the Chief Executive of Kuala Lumpur Kepong Berhad, the company is very much involved in the area of property and retail as well as plantation which is the sector that it started with.

Tan Sri Lee is married with 4 children, and through Kuala Lumpur Kepong, he recently bought over Ladang Perbadanan-Fima where it ventured into the palm oil industry. He is the chairman of the Malaysian Palm Oil Council and also a director of Yule Catto & Co Plc, a chemicals manufacturing company based in the United Kingdom. At Batu Kawan, Tan Sri Lee is the chairman and he has continued to grow the company that has been successfully built by his late father, Tan Sri Lee Loy Seng.

He is known to be responsible for steering the company from plantations and chemicals into other money-making sectors that include property development and plans are in place to further expand the business to Indonesia. Tan Sri Lee joined the company in 1974 as an executive and slightly more than a decade later, he was appointed to the board.
Among the company’s remarkable success is the acquisition of Crabtree & Evelyn, the American beauty and health retail chain for USD60 million. Between the brothers, Tan Sri Lee is more involved in his capacity to lead Kuala Lumpur Kepong while his brother is more involved in the running of Batu Kawan. Growth in the company is expected to be on the up with plans to venture into cocoa and oleochemicals while it also recently set up a fatty acids facility in China.
